The split bill “In Void” showcases two experimental interdisciplinary works by New York-based companies, SHADOWSWELL and Verbal Animal.
SHADOWSWELL, under the artistic direction of Eilish Henderson will present "Pariahs of the Void" which investigates the social, spiritual, and political underpinnings of punk. The work evokes the catharsis of movement in punk music scenes, release, freedom, and balancing inner turmoil with external openness. Punk elicits a transformative, dreamlike macrocosm created at live shows, where bodies merge and dissolve in a cyclical wave bound by a ceaseless pulse. This work will underscore the necessity of presence and care while touching on notions of aggression, fear, violence, and exclusion.
Verbal Animal, under the artistic direction of Lavy will present “In Exchange for Anonymity”. In Exchange for Anonymity surrenders itself into a hamster wheel of surveillance, allure, and indespicable display. As three performers traverse through scenes of unconscious and conscious observation, what choices become our own versus the choices of those surveying us? Indulging into the ethos of our own pleasure, In Exchange for Anonymity is an undoing into the obscure, absurd, and monstrous complex of social surveillance.
“In Void” is a one-night event with a post-show reception. The performance will take place at Kestrels in Brooklyn, NY from 7:30-9 pm.
